When I was 14, I use to type up lyrics all the time and save them to my computer, reading them over while I listened to the songs so that I could have them all memorized. It was so important to me to have them in my head forever, that I would literally dedicate hours to listening to music. No TV, no drawings, no IMs, nothing. Just music.
A Perfect Circle’s debut album Mer De Noms was one of my favorites. It didn’t sound like anything I’d ever heard, and it still hasn’t been replicated. My dad, however, hated the message. He thought “A Perfect Circle” was referring to a pentagram, and once read the lyrics to “Judith” to me very condescendingly. Of course, it had no effect on me. I still listened to the album all the time and, surprisingly, didn’t grow up to become a Satanist. *Rolls eyes*
Ironically, a few months after I got the CD, he took me to see them in concert here in Louisville. It was my first concert, and it was fucking amazing. So hard to believe that album came out 11 years ago, and my first concert was only a little over 10 years ago.
